Jockey Buzz Aldrin Flag Planting Ad

This is a very loopy and fun ad, using Buzz Aldrin’s visit to the moon as an excuse to take off on a flight of fancy to plant flags on other planets. I do have to question, however, Jockey’s ability to get NASA back to prominence, or their ability to extend the duration of space missions. But nice try, and I like the silliness on display here.

I think the intro to this ad, however, referencing General Patton and Babe Ruth, goes a bit off course here, as it feels a bit arbitrary and distracting. Maybe they should do other ads for them specifically. But if they want to add others, maybe they could list some of the other greats who have worn Jockey at the end by saying: “Jockey also helped support these great men: (Great Man #1, Great Man #2, etc.).”

What would be fun also would be to show Buzz Aldrin punching some jerks who accuse him of being a fraud and claim the moon landing was a hoax, and have the announcer say that Jockey supports Buzz Aldrin even when others do not. (Buzz Aldrin is known to have done this before.*)

Here’s the spacey spot:

* Here’s a news story about Buzz Aldrin punching some rude conspiracy nut:

Symbicort Big Bad Wolf Ad

I like this ad, referencing as it does the story with the Big Bad Wolf, who needs powerful breath to blow houses down. It’s cute, with a grandfather reading the story of the Three Little Pigs to his grandson, and when he says the wolf was: “huffing and puffing”, the little kid says: “Kind of like you sometimes, Grandpa.” (Kids say the darndest things, don’t they?)

The only problem with using the Big Bad Wolf is that he is a character who blows homes down and makes people homeless, and we’re still in an economic environment where people are losing their homes, people are underwater on their mortgages, and the idea of “the wolf at the door” is very real to many unfortunate Americans still. But I think the way this ad is put together minimizes this, mixing the grandfather reading the book to his grandson. (The idea of homes being blown away is still there, however. But you can find a downside to anything if you try, and I think this is pretty fun for its product’s selling point.)

Here’s the product that promotes homelessness in pigs:

Alka-Seltzer Relief Chews Fireman Ad

In this spot for Alka-Seltzer Relief Chews, a woman on a park bench gets heartburn, complains about it, and is rescued by a fireman with Alka-Seltzer Relief Chews. He claims they work as fast and are proven to taste better than Tums. (Um, how do you prove something tastes better than something else? Isn’t that more of a subjective preference thing? And isn’t the taste an odd thing to be proving the superiority of in this case? How about the efficacy of the antacid? Oh, never mind…) But she doesn’t agree, so he sprays her with his high-pressure fire hose. (Just kidding. But he is a fireman, so you never know.)

Here’s the chewy spot:

Chumash Casino Hedda Gambler Ad (Joke/Proposed)

(This is a joke on the Henrik Ibsen play: Hedda Gabler.)

The return of Hedda Gambler’s husband’s rival, the formerly alcoholic Eilert Lövborg, causes the couple to worry about her husband’s position at the university, so Hedda Gambler persuades Lövborg to go to the casino with them, hoping he’ll fall off the wagon. She miscalculates, however, when Lövborg chooses to gamble rather than drink (Yelp says Chumash has a bar, but they don’t serve drinks on the floor, nor do they allow drinks to leave the bar), but they are all delighted when they all win large amounts of money at the gambling tables. Afterwards, they all have so much fun enjoying the casino’s activities and entertainment, they become fast friends for life. Plus, they’re all so rich from all the money they won gambling, everyone can retire, so there’s no more rivalry. And so they all live happily ever after, thanks to the Chumash Casino. The End.

(Not a very realistic outcome, I know; but then again, everybody always wins in these casino ads, so what the hell.)

The HIPAA Hippy (HIPAA Ad Mascot)

In order to educate the public about what HIPAA laws do for our medical records privacy, we could have a HIPAA mascot, the HIPAA Hippy, and he’d be super paranoid, because he’s stoned on pot (and because he’s a tin-foil hat conspiracy type), about everyone wanting to see his medical records, which he is paranoid about people seeing because of all the drugs he’s taken. But it’s no problem, because HIPAA protects the privacy of his medical records.

Honda Portable Generators Magic Outlet Ad

This TV spot for Honda Portable Generators shows us having one is like having a magic electrical outlet wherever you go, so you can plug in anything you want to use wherever you go, even deep out into the great outdoors!

This is basically a perfect commercial for this product line, showing us exactly what we might want one for. Nice job with the concept, and slick production, too.

Here’s the magic outlet ad:

Beano “The Fart in our Stars” Ad (Joke/Proposed)

Two teenagers, a boy and a girl, have bad flatulence, and as a result, nobody wants to date them. But they find each other and fall in love, and then they find Beano to help them defeat their gaseous problems, at which point people can finally stand to be around them; and when everyone gets to know them, they become the most popular kids in school, and they are voted the prom king and queen at their school’s senior prom. (Individual results may vary.)
