“Game of Thrones” Conclusion Theory

Apparently George RR Martin acknowledged that some fans had guessed the conclusion of his novels, and I was presented (by some entertainment news article) with the idea that Jon Snow equals the ‘Ice’ of the series title (A Song of Ice and Fire), and Daenarys Targaryen is the ‘Fire’ of the series title, and that they’ll hook up and rule together in the end.

Well, that’s fine as a happy ending, but this HBO show is not about happy endings. In fact, it seems like they try to make us like characters just so they can kill them off and make us mad (which I like, by the way, because it’s not formulaic for a change). So then what bigger way to make viewers mad than to do what I am theorizing they might do: have the White Walkers invade south of the wall, and due to everyone backstabbing each other, no one is willing to work together, and so the White Walkers kill all of the humans (and giants) who do not kill each other, and then there are only White Walkers and dragons left alive (The ‘Ice’ and ’Fire’ of the series title), and then they fight to the death and kill each other completely, and then all sentient life on the whole GOT planet is left totally extinct.

Just think of it: what better way to stick up a middle finger to all the fans than to kill everyone and leave a barren lifeless planet behind. This would be the ultimate expression of what so many people hate about Game of Thrones: they make us care, and then they kill whomever we care about. And they’ve made us care about the various peoples of this world, and so to then kill them all off in one fell swoop would be the ultimate troll on everyone who loves the show. And that’s why I think they really ought to do it.
