In what was supposed to be the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Picard asks the replicator for his cup of “Earl Gray, hot”, but the replicator has a malfunction, and it won’t stop pumping out hot Earl Gray tea. They try everything, but it won’t stop. (You know something like that would have to happen eventually with a replicator.) And by the end, the entire starship is completely filled up with hot tea, and everyone drowns. And a nearby cloaked Klingon ship watches in amusement but does not offer to help.
This episode went unaired because the studio decided they wanted to continue the series as a movie series, and they couldn’t very well do that if they drowned everyone in tea. Of course, they lacked the outside-the-box thinking of the JJ Abrams alternate timeline approach: that will cheat you out of anything!
