Recently I heard Vice President Joe Biden say something
about us making headway in the War on Cancer, and I thought: “No, don’t call it
the War on Cancer! Then we’ll never cure it! Like all the other ‘wars’ we’ve
lost: the War on Drugs, the War on Poverty, the War on Terror, the War on
Christmas.”
The federal government has fought valiantly against all
these things, and we not only haven’t beaten them, they’ve gotten stronger. If
we want to cure cancer, please let’s not have another failed war on something.
Call it the Search for a Cure for Cancer: that way, we might actually succeed
someday!
