People are mad about yet another all white Oscars this year. But if the Academy Awards expanded the number of nominees from five to ten, wouldn’t that eliminate the problem? With only five, it’s hard to include anyone except for the big names the studios are pushing, so maybe with ten nominees in each major category we’d see greater diversity. Or maybe the Academy would nominate ten white people in each category and make everyone really mad.
(You know, I'm not sure this wasn't a trolling effort to get attention for the Oscars. Last year's Oscars were down in viewership, so seeing all the bumps in ratings CNN, et. al., got for their coverage of stuff meant to make us all hate each other based on race, maybe the Academy Awards decided that if they could get a big race dialogue going about their nominations, everyone would watch. Remember, in show business, no publicity is bad publicity.)
