This may be just me, but I really feel like the city of Meereen really must have the women’s choral singing in the music to work properly in the credits. As it is now, they’ve reordered the landscape to add Dorne, pushing Mereen forward in the order of the landmarks shown; and while that’s nice, the choral singing part of the credits music does not work as well for Dorne as it does for Meereen. The only thing that might help fix this would be if they did to the depiction of Meereen what they did to Winterfell: change its appearance to reflect the plotline. As everyone who watches the show knows, that statue of the Harpy on the top of the large pyramid in Meereen was torn down in the first episode of Season 5, so it really should be missing in the credits now. It is the unfurling of this statue, with its wings and female appearance, that makes the choral bit work so well; maybe if it is removed, it wouldn’t be so jarring to have the musical arrangement altered such as it is. It would still be jarring to me anyway though, because for me, the woman’s chorus part of the music signifies Daenerys Targaryen’s presence and rule in the city of Meereen. Once she’s moved on, maybe it won’t be so; but for now she’s still the queen there, so it feels like a misstep to remove what feels like her theme music from her city in the credits.
I wonder if anyone else has noticed this or feels similarly about it.
