Body Cameras for Police and Politicians

Hillary Clinton tossed her two cents worth in the ring the other day when she commented on the situation in Baltimore, saying she supports body cameras for all police so there is due oversight. I agree wholeheartedly. After all, the police are paid with our tax dollars, and they have power over us, so we should know what they’re up to so that we can be sure there is no abuse of power, and if there are abuses, so we can get accountability.

But this whole issue of oversight, cover-ups and no accountability just brought my attention right back to Hillary Clinton, and not to single her out, government officials and especially politicians in general. After all, their salary is paid with our tax dollars as well, and they also have power over us, and we need to be sure there is no abuse of power. And like with the police, often times corruption seems to get covered-up behind a thin red or blue line (sometimes both at the same time) so that we can never get accountability and the perps almost always get away with their corruption. If politicians and government officials had to wear body cameras at all times, we could see what they’re truly up to, and we could feel safer knowing they will have to operate knowing we can all see what they’re up to behind closed doors, so they will be more likely to be honest.

I am very glad Hillary Clinton suggested police all wear body cameras, and since I know she understands that accountability in politics and government is just as important as it is with local law enforcement, I know she will support politicians wearing body cameras at all times as well, starting with her. (Although somehow I get the feeling that her body camera will never work very well nor retain any footage.)
