In this proposed ad for the SC Johnson Scrubbing Bubbles cleanser, the bubbles are a team of hardboiled private investigators à la Sam Spade or Philip Marlowe in a gritty film noir tale called: “Trouble Bubbles” (or: “Bubble Trouble”), where in a gritty, grimy, shady bathroom containing all manner of undesirable, low-down & dirty characters, our heroes must overcome these villains and the filth of this environment to clean up this place for a client: the homeowner. And so the Scrubbing Bubbles slap these soiled and spoiled characters down the drain and make the place squeaky clean, and win the love of the woman who owns the house. Yes, it’s all in a day’s work for the Scrubbing Bubbles, who despite being in a gritty milieu are not gritty themselves. Yes, hire this team and they’ll clean up your place, too. And they work hard so you don’t have to rub shoulders with unsavory characters like dirt and grime and soap scum.
