Domino’s Pizza School Ad

This is a cute, if jerky ad, showing Domino’s drive a truck up to a Pizza Hut which then opens up to reveal a pizza school inside, as if all pizza places need to be taught how to make pizza by Domino’s.

But, um, wasn’t Domino’s the pizza chain that admitted a couple of years ago in their advertising that their crust wasn’t fresh and their cheese wasn’t even real cheese? I specifically remember the segment about this admission by the company on The Colbert Report, and I’ll include a link to it below.

So, uh, are Domino’s really actually good enough to school anyone on making good pizza? I mean, the other chains aren’t that great, but is Domino’s actually better enough to arrogantly presume to instruct anyone else? If they’re not, then they look like dishonest egomaniacs, and even if they are, they still look like arrogant jerks. If Colbert were still on Comedy Central, Domino’s might just be the Alpha Dog of the Week again with this spot.

But the spot is memorable, I’ll give it that much. The creatives did a really good job on this concept. It’s just that I’m not so sure it’s an appropriate concept for Domino’s. But I’ll leave that for you to decide if it’s appropriate for the same company who ran a public apology ad campaign just a couple of years ago ought to have the nerve to seek to school other pizza chains about how to make good pizza.

Here’s the schooling spot:

And here’s that segment from The Colbert Report talking about Domino’s:
