Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a very well-loved musical, but you couldn’t make that play today. You can do a revival of it, sure, but you couldn’t write it new and get it made today. It’s funny, as I watched it for the first time in a long time recently, it occurred to me that it could also have been called: The Abduction and Rape of Seven Women, and How They All Get the Stockholm Syndrome: The Musical. That’s really a more accurate title, although somehow I doubt that play would do as well, even if it was the same play. Probably because it’s not as catchy a title.
