(Sketch comedy for Robot Chicken)
Polly Purebred is abducted by Simon Bar Sinister, and hearing this, Shoeshine Boy ducks into a
nearby telephone booth to transform into Underdog. But as he does so, Polly
Purebred and Simon Bar Sinister approach the now defunct telephone booth
Underdog emerges from (and destroys). Polly tells Underdog that she and Simon
planned together to fake her abduction so that they could have an intervention,
confronting Underdog for his dependence on Underdog Super Energy Pills (known
today as pharmaceutical speed). She claims his pill-popping is destructive,
pointing to the devastated phone booth for proof of her claim.
And so, with Polly refusing to see him as long as he takes Underdog pills, our hero goes to rehab. Oh, but actually it was all
an evil plot by Simon Bar Sinister, panicking Polly Purebred into pressuring
Underdog into rehab. And with Underdog gone, he kills Polly Purebred and takes
over the city with his vicious empire of crime. But when Underdog tries to stop
him, he’s arrested on drug charges for possession of amphetamines, and he goes
to jail, defenseless against an army of super criminals he’d put there over the
course of years.
Or else, maybe it could turn out that Shoeshine Boy has
developed speed psychosis after years of amphetamine use, and Underdog is
merely a figment of his fevered imagination, and Polly Purebred is his nurse,
and Simon Bar Sinister his doctor, in a state-run psychiatric facility. (Oh,
sorry, that’s fantasy too: most state psychiatric hospitals were defunded and decommissioned
years ago, so he’d likely be in prison instead, thanks to the War on Drugs.)
