We all know that Nike’s slogan is “Just Do It”. Well, there’s also a great song by Rollins Band called “Do It”, and it’s saying the same thing. Wow, if paired with the right video cues, these lyrics could work better than almost any song for an ad. But as far as I’m aware, it hasn’t been done. Well, it ought to be done!
The song says: “Don’t think about it; do it!” (We could see Spike Lee in the old Nike ads as Einstein, and then Michael Jordan dunking.)
Then it says: “Don’t talk about it; do it!” (We could see talking heads on TV, and then someone throws a baseball through the TV screen.)
Then it says: “Don’t lie about it; do it, do it!” (Then we see people who have cheated at sports, and then medalists who won fairly.)
Then it says: “Don’t write about it; do it!” (Then we see famous sportswriters writing, and then athletes actually doing what they’re writing about.)
Then it says: “Do it do it do it do it do it do it do it!” (And we could see all kinds of athletes doing their thing: marathon running, gymnastics, surfing, skateboarding, with some wipeouts in there too to show you don’t have to be a champion to do it. Just do it!)
Ah, yes: do it!
See how well it would work?
Here’s the song (And Nike: Do It!):
(My apologies if this has been done before, but I haven’t seen it.)
