I have said it before on this very blog: lizards are the hot new advertising mascots. And here’s another example of a lizard advertising mascot: a chameleon for the paint company Valspar.
Now, a chameleon is already a good advertising mascot for a paint color company for obvious reasons, but this is a particularly appropriate use of a chameleon advertising mascot, because this ad is for a guarantee where if you don’t like how the color you bought turned out on or in your home, you can get a different color for free, thereby being a color change guarantee, and as a color-changing character, the chameleon is perfect for this. And it’s especially fun to see the chameleons stepping on color swatches and changing color to match.
So a chameleon is fun as a paint color system advertising mascot because they are well known for their relation to color, their ability to change color, and their ability to match any environment.
Previously on this blog I related how I thought a chameleon would make a more appropriate advertising mascot for an insurance company than a gecko, because the chameleon could be visible and easy to find when we want to sign up for a new policy or when it’s time for us to pay our bill, but then it could blend into the background and disappear when we need them to pay our claim. (“Hey, where’d he go?”) But that’s a joke, as I’m sure insurance companies don’t like us to think about that.
Here’s the color-changing commercial:

But you know, now that I think about it, a chameleon advertising mascot might get stepped on or sat on because people might not see it. But then I guess they would have the perfect excuse for replacing their chameleon mascot with another one if it asked for more money.
