BBC has a news channel on cable here in America, and it’s
really great. It’s way better than the partisan crap we get here. But there is
one odd thing about it, and that’s the weather report. You see, they’re
delivering the weather to America with all the temperatures in Celsius. But we
don’t use that pansy-assed crap here. So nobody understands what they’re
talking about.
Look, you can debate whether America is stupid for not using
the metric system and Celsius all you want (if you’re a commie! {Just kidding.
You can do it if you’re not a commie too, I think. It’s a free country, sort
of, still.*}), but if you’re going to make a channel for broadcast in another
country, you really ought to use terminology they understand; because if you
don’t, they won’t understand you.
* I am joking about stuff like this (the “commie”
references, referring to Celsius “pansy-assed”, etc.), I hope everyone
understands. If I were speaking, you’d hear the intent from the tone of my
voice, but that doesn’t always come across through the written word. But I am serious that most Americans don’t
understand temperatures in Celsius, so maybe BBC ought to change that to Fahrenheit
for American audiences. (<Can you believe that Fahrenheit guy had a silent ‘H’
in his name? That’s obviously just there to confuse Americans! Jerk.) But maybe
the BBC thinks Fahrenheit is for losers. Why, are we going to take that from
them? America declared and fought for independence from England for less!
