PBS had a marathon of Endeavour
on Masterpiece Mystery this weekend, and
that reminded me of how TV companies are always eager to make prequels and
sequels of all their successful shows. And as Endeavour is a prequel to the
long-running series Inspector Morse,
I thought maybe they should consider a sequel. But, as Inspector Morse is dead,
and he never got married or had any children, they would clone him, because
nobody is as competent as he was, or whatever excuse they’d use. And so it
would be both a traditional mystery show (because it has a classic TV character
returning) and a sci-fi show (because
it has a clone in it). And it would be called Re-Morse, not only because they are bringing Morse back, but also
because his mannerisms and such cause them to regret doing so, and because he
regrets being brought back, leading to the unavoidable last season of the show
where all his superiors and the scientists who created him are murdered, and it
turns out he did it, but he covers for himself to finish the job.
It’s all the traditional mystery and sci-fi action you can
handle! It’s Re-Morse: Coming soon to
a PBS station near you! (Okay, maybe not…)
