Martin Blaser was on The
Daily Show last night, and wow, was I concerned with what he was saying. He
has written a book, for the general public to read, which states that
antibiotics are overused, and it’s going to kill us all.
Okay, well he may be right
about the claim (according to him), but remember the expression that a little knowledge is very
dangerous? Yeah, that’s about stuff like this, because this is what makes
parents say they will never let their kids take antibiotics, like some parents
did with immunizations, and then lots of kids will likely die.
This book would be better as a book for doctors, and not for
the general public. Because at least doctors will know enough to weigh the
argument against necessity, which most lay persons do not seem to know how to
do.
Plus, this book has a cover with lots of brightly-colored
pills on it, and I have never seen nor taken a brightly-colored antibiotic. So
it makes me wonder if the author is confusing antibiotics with Skittles or
M&Ms.
