Happiness, Dancing Banned in Iran

Some Iranian teens made a video dancing to Pharrell Williams’s song “Happy”, and they got hunted down and thrown into prison for doing so, which really puts the lie to the happy face our news people are trying to put on Iran for the nuclear talks.

But this situation of kids being jailed for a music video reminded me of a famous song by Paul McCartney and Wings, called “Band on the Run”, because it rhymes with “Banned in Iran”.

So here’s my musical rendition of the Tehran “Happy” video situation, to the tune of “Band on the Run”:

Well the Iranians heard an American song,
Saying happiness was fun,
So some Tehran kids made a video dance,
And they went to prison.

Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
Cause having fun, for everyone,
It’s done forevermore,

Cause it’s banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran.

Well the Mullahs, yes they drew a heavy sigh,
To see that kids were having fun,
So the call came in from across the land,
To throw them in prison.

Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
To dance to songs, and play in throngs,
It’s done for everyone,

Cause it’s banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran,
Banned in Iran.

Here’s the happy human rights abusing story:

(BTW: I can’t believe the repression these people live under. If it wasn’t so seriously and disgustingly human rights abusing, it would almost be comical. I’ve known lots of ex-pat Iranians, and they are wonderful people. But, wow, what a screwed-up government! {And I thought ours was crazy!})
