Go RVing “Back in the Saddle” Ad

I just saw this commercial again on CNN. I’m surprised they’re still running it. It seems like it’s been on for a long time. It’s really cute, and I love the animation style, but there’s a slight hitch with what’s going on in the spot. Can you figure out what it might be? I’ll give you a hint: it has something to do with bears.

Yes, after a year where an extremely large number of people have been attacked and killed by bears in our national parks, this ad shows a bear encouraging people to go RVing. (It's not just that there's a bear in the ad: the bear is the spokesman!) I guess that’s so there will be more people to kill and eat. Since the news of the attacks has gotten out, less people are probably thinking about going out to where the bears are, so this ad is trying to lure them with a friendly bear character. Or so it seems.

Actually, this ad is older than the bear attacks we’ve been hearing about. That’s why they probably are still running it: they’ve forgotten about the bear in it! But while this is a great and fun commercial, they really ought to stop running it because of the bear in light of all the recent bear attacks. It’s just common sense. There are a couple of other ads in this campaign they could use, or they could just drop a different animal in place of the bear in this ad’s animation and re-render it out again. Or they could just make a new spot. But this ad, under the circumstances, seems a little bit clueless to me. I mean, I love it, but still…

Here’s the spot:

And here's another ad from this campaign (another fun spot! Actually, they were all great! It was just the bear attack thing and the timing of it.):
