This ad has been getting a lot of applause from critics, and it’s easy to see why. It’s fun, and it has so much nostalgia from movies, TV shows and comic strips in it. But all these references are pretty old, so it made me wonder why they didn’t include one from a more recent movie like Team America: World Police, where they use a similar smart watch for communication.
In that movie, near the end, Gary rescues the other team members from a North Korean prison, and when they ask why they should trust a quitter like Gary, Spottswoode chimes in on Gary’s wristwatch videophone, saying they can trust him because Gary performed oral sex on him. (Yes, that’s really in the movie.) I wonder why they didn’t include this well-known Hollywood smart watch in their ad? (They could just toss in this one quick quote made over Gary’s smart watch: “He sucked my c*ck!”)
