Pearle Vision Price Vs. Phone Number Ad

This commercial has a guy looking at a bill, and he says to the woman at the business: “That’s not the number we talked about.” And she says: “That’s our phone number.” And then they say something about how their prices are low, etc. And that’s kind of funny, right? The only problem is, this is a commercial for a company that makes glasses, and how could this guy mistake the company’s telephone number for the price unless he can’t see anything? And that right there makes their glasses seem pretty low quality or defective, since he apparently can’t see. Unless it’s his dyslexia, and not the glasses, that’s the problem. But it’s a mildly amusing attempt at a joke that just doesn’t work very well when you consider it’s an ad for glasses. Plus, isn’t a phone number seven digits at the least? So then he thought they were charging him seven figures for a pair of glasses? When you really think about it, the joke doesn’t really work very well for that reason, either. Oh, well.

I can’t find this commercial on YouTube, so here’s another one for Pearle Vision:

This spot shows some lady giving a Pearle Vision employee a lie detector test about the amount of the bill. This could say that their prices are so low, it’s unbelievable, and I’m sure that’s what they’re getting at here; but it could also suggest that perhaps they are untrustworthy, or that she has been gypped and/or conned by this company before, and so she is doing this to ensure she won’t be scammed again. It’s a fun idea, but it suggests many other possibilities than the positive one they were thinking of. It’s also possible, when you’re making your ridiculously low prices your selling point, that people might get the idea that the quality of your merchandise is every bit as low as the prices.
