The First Gatorade Slicker to Tom Coughlin!

A few weeks ago, I wrote a piece suggesting Gatorade create the “Gatorade Slicker”: a raincoat for winning coaches to don when they’re sure they’re going to win the game, and they want to avoid getting soaked with the ice-cold Gatorade. But Tom Coughlin is 65-years-old and (no offense, please) he could get sick from being drenched with Gatorade in the cold weather of Green Bay or Minnesota, etc. So I propose for Gatorade to award the first Gatorade Slicker to Tom Coughlin for his Super Bowl win with the Giants this year.

And it would be doubly appropriate, because I believe the Gatorade Shower, or Gatorade Bath, was first created by the New York Giants as a celebration to pour on Bill Parcells, leading up to Super Bowl XXI, right? So then it would be perfect to give it to Coughlin as the NY Giants coach for both the Super Bowl win and the fact that this tradition started with the NY Giants. And besides, it would be a PR disaster for Gatorade if a coach got pneumonia and died from getting the Gatorade Shower (!). And it could happen someday. And nobody wants that, especially Gatorade! (But if they had their Gatorade Slicker, and they didn’t put it on, and they got sick, it wouldn’t reflect badly on Gatorade: get it? So give out the Gatorade Slicker: it’s just good business sense.)

So Gatorade, if you read this, you have my permission to use this idea for the Gatorade Slicker if you wish, so long as you hire me for something else later on, like an ad or a promotion or something. Just please remember who thought it up for you. Thanks!
