I saw a 1930s movie recently about someone being executed in the electric chair, and his whole life flashes before him. I’ve also seen similar movies where condemned criminals fight to avoid the chair. And that made me think maybe there’s a way to make the electric chair more inviting: make it a La-Z-Boy recliner!
So in this silly joke/proposed ad for the La-Z-Boy recliner, we’d see some cowardly murderer from a 1930s movie being led to the electric chair, and he’s crying and begging the whole way, and then they drag him into the place of execution, and there’s a La-Z-Boy chair in there. So the criminal takes one look at the chair, says: “Well, why didn’t you say so?” and goes to sit down in it. Then the turn on the juice, and he dies all relaxed and smiling, and the warden says: “Wow, a La-Z-Boy is so comfortable, nothing can ruin it! It was too good for ‘im! Now everyone will want to ‘Get the Chair’!”
Then the slogan is: “La-Z-Boy: ‘Get the Chair’!”
Of course, there could be a version where the chair is just a La-Z-Boy non-electric chair, and the guy just goes to sit in it, and he enjoys it.
Then the slogan is: “La-Z-Boy: ‘Give Him the Chair’!”
