The Twix ad agency came up with a fun little concept
recently where they pitted the left side of the Twix vs. the right side, and
asked us to pick a side. Well, this made me think of nothing but our broken political
system, full of crooked candidates and brainwashed lackey pundits; and so I
thought maybe they should do it like that, like so:
We’d see news propaganda pieces for the left and the right,
featuring hack pundits like Sean Hannity and Ed Schultz, and they’d be making
smear attacks on the left or right side of the Twix bar, claiming the left side
is a communist, and the right side is a fascist, and they’re both coming for
your children, just like they do to actual political candidates in character assassination
based upon partisan favoritism; and then we’d have wing-nut politicians as
guests, like Alan Greyson and Michele Bachmann, and they’d further pile on the
slime, based solely on partisan rhetoric. And then they’d ask us to pick a side
(as if, after that, we’d want any of either side at all!*).
And just like with our two political parties, both sides of
the Twix are basically the same, giving us the same sugary rush when we choose
them, but giving us a depressing crash later that leaves us feeling bitter and
ashamed.
(BTW: I’m not trying to drag Twix through the mud with the
political system, but they did start it with their left vs. right “Pick a Side”
ad.)
Here’s the Twix ad asking us to pick a side:
* Hey, maybe this is perfect way to make kids not want candy
bars!
