We keep hearing about
superbugs on the news: you know, those antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria
that are making people sick and so forth. Well, using the movie formula of
overcoming adversity to triumph, etc., this story might make an inspiring tale
of the creation of a superhero: Superbug.
So Superbug starts out
life as a hospital bacterium, minding his own business making people sick and
so forth, but the evil antibiotics and mean antibodies are always trying to push
our poor hero around. Well, after they manage to kill all his friends, our
titular heroic character learns to fight his oppressors, gaining strength and
wisdom with a bacteriological form of martial arts, and with much hard work and
training, he becomes Superbug, defender of bacteria and avenger of dead
bacteria, fighting against antibiotics and antibodies and doctors to help the
bacteria conquer humanity.
It’s a heartwarming tale
of redemption, with a hero emerging from a repressed group of innocent deadly
bacteria, conquering all opponents and teaching and training other bacteria in
martial arts to become an army of Superbugs. And so they form the League of
Superbugs, fighting against the intolerance and repression of antibiotics and
antibodies, finally conquering at first hospital patients, and then whole
hospitals.
Yes, it’s Superbug, coming to a theater near you!
(And while this may be a
joke in bad taste, it does follow slavishly the animated movie story format,
doesn’t it? And aren’t superheroes all the rage now anyway?)
