Anti-Piracy Bill

Lots and lots of hoopla is being generated over this SOPA bill lately. That’s the bill to stop internet piracy that’s being pushed and advocated by the big Hollywood movie studios, claiming that internet piracy has severely hurt their bottom line, costing them billions of dollars every year. They want laws that crack down on sites that show their movies before they gan gouge us for them at the movie theaters, while people talk on their cell-phones and loudly much on popcorn and stuff.

But isn’t this whole thing their own fault? After all, they’ve made tons of pirate movies over the years, especially these big budget Pirates of the Caribbean movies starring Johnny Depp, that make being a pirate look super fun and cool! So then everyone wants to be a pirate too! But then they get mad when people actually become pirates? Well, that looks like hypocrisy to me; where’s the accountability, guys? Maybe you should stop making it look so cool to be a pirate, and then we wouldn't all want to be one.

Some websites are going dark for 24 hours starting last night at midnight. And worse yet, pirate ships are flying their masts at half-staff for that whole day! Pretty soon, they’re not even going to bother putting on their peg-legs and eye patches, and all because of this bullying bill! This chilling bill is shivering me timbers! Arrrr!

Here’s a business newspaper’s description of the SOPA bill:
