This is the spot where they drive a 4-door Mercedes into the darkness with chains attached to the back doors, and then the chains rip off the back doors. Then they show the car they’re selling: a 2-door coupe in the same color as the other car (silver).
Wow! A 2-door car? I’ve never seen such a thing! Awesome!
Oh, actually, sorry: I think I have seen a 2-door car before. But you know, I’ve never seen one made like this before, where they attach chains to the back doors of a 4-door sedan and then drive until the chains go taut and tear off the back doors. That’s cool! But the thing is, it kind of seems like a lot of unnecessary effort, when they could just build the car with 2 doors to begin with. But you know, maybe that’s the kind of thing that makes a Mercedes a Mercedes! And who am I to argue about something like that? When something works for you, you stick with it! (They’ve probably been making 2-door cars like this all along for years and years! And you don't mess with success! Oh, but aren't they giving away their trade secrets here? Drat! Now anyone can make cars like this!)
Sorry, I can’t find this ad online. It seems like YouTube has every other Mercedes Benz ad or video imaginable, but not this one. But it’s on TV, and you’re not likely to forget it if you see it. Even if you only remember it because it’s so silly. But you know, when I saw this ad for the very first time, I thought it was going to end up being an ad for another brand of car, like an Audi or a BMW, saying that they've "blown the doors off" of Mercedes's competing model. Does it strike any of you that way too, at least at first?
