Opticlude Orthoptic Eye Patch

In the grocery store yesterday, I ran across this medical eye patch for kids (I guess) while looking for a specific brand of eye drops. It was funny to see it, because it looks like a serious, sterile band-aid type device that sticks over the eye to protect or cover it. And that made me think: Really? An eye patch for a kid that doesn’t take advantage of this to make them look like a pirate? What a gyp for kids with eye ailments! The only good thing about being a kid with eye problems is that you get to dress like a pirate! I think it ought to be black leather with a skull & crossbones printed on it, and have a string or strap that goes around their head! Oh, but that’s not all, for they should also include a pirate hat, a flint-lock pistol, a curvy sword, a peg-leg, etc.: all the things to make the kid feel like a real pirate, and to feel like having eye problems is a wonderful ticket to play dress-up and have Halloween every day! Otherwise, it’s just a drag.

Here’s what it looks like:

Or were they worried the kid might wake up in a roadside ditch? Here’s why they might be concerned about that (It's those animal haters at DirecTV again, trying to ruin it for kids who like pirates!):
