NetFlix has had
some great horror movies for streaming over the past few years, but many are
gone now. I get that; maybe people don’t want to see horror movies as much
throughout the year. But for October, can’t they get them all back every year?
And each year they could expand the selection of spooky horror movies, and advertise it for Halloween
to attract new customers. And, to get rights easily, they could run ads before
or after the movies telling us where to buy them on disc if we want them.
Here’s a partial
list of movies they used to have, but don’t anymore:
The Haunting of
Julia
Eyes Without a Face
Blood and Roses
The Awakening
Twins of Evil
Vampire Circus
Curse of the
Crimson Altar (The Crimson Cult)
Hands of the Ripper
Burn Witch Burn
The Sentinel
The Ghost
The Wig
Phone
I used to be able
to watch these (and lots more) anytime with streaming, but they’re gone now.
Some you can maybe get on DVD, but that takes time and is subject to
availability. But why not get lots of great horror and horror/fantasy films for
streaming, just for October? Here’s a partial list of some movies they could
get for Halloween, just for streaming:
The Horrible Dr.
Hichcock (1962)
Horror Castle
(1963, aka The Virgin of Nuremberg)
The Whip and the
Body (1963)
Blood and Black
Lace (1964)
Crypt of the Vampire
(1964)
The Depths (1957,
aka Ghost of Kasane Swamp)
Black Cat Mansion
(1958, aka Bôrei Kaibyô Yashiki)
Ghost of Yotsuya
(1959)
Ghost of Oiwa
(1961)
Illusion of Blood
(1965)
Botan-dôrô (1968)
Viy (1967)
Valerie and her
Week of Wonders (1970)
The Savage Hunt of
King Stakh (1979)
Alucarda (1975)
Bakeneko (1968, aka
Kaibyô Nori no Numa)
Hasta El Viento
Tiene Miedo (1968)
El Libro de Piedra
(1969)
Más Negro Que La
Noche (1975)
El Escapulario
(1968)
This is only a
partial list. I’d also love to see every Giallo movie ever made available. And
if you don’t see your favorite horror film here, either it’s too mainstream, or
I forgot to mention it, or I haven’t seen it. (I have seen a lot of horror
movies, though. Many, many more movies deserve to be on this list.)
Hey, maybe the idea
wouldn’t work to increase subscriptions, but the worst that could happen is
that they would end up with a lot of really happy horror movie connoisseurs,
and I don’t really see a downside to that scenario, as they would rave about
it, and more people would likely join eventually as a result.
Anyway, it’s just an idea.
