Hey, Star Wars is popular, especially with kids, right? And don't tobacco companies want to snag people while they're young so as to get people hooked for life on smoking? So then what better strategy to combat this than to use a movie franchise that's extremely popular with kids in anti-smoking ads?
So here's an idea: Why not use Jar-Jar Binks in an anti-smoking ad, with the character claiming: "Smoking make meesa wheeza!" Then surely no children would ever want to smoke, right?
Oh, but actually, doesn't everyone hate this character? And so then couldn't this end up backfiring and creating lots of young smokers who take up the habit just because they hate Jar-Jar Binks? Oh, well: maybe it's not such a good idea...
(Psst! Hey tobacco companies: have I got an advertising concept for you!)
