Cheerios Birdhouse Architect Ad

Some retired guy sits in his garage/workshop gushing over how awesome it is building birdhouses in this recent commercial for Cheerios. He says he really, really loves building birdhouses, and that his greatest wish is to be able to build them for the rest of his life unimpeded. So, for this reason, he’s eating Cheerios, to make sure his heart is healthy and stuff so he can live his dream of building birdhouses for the rest of his life.

But is this really such a good idea? He said that his dream is to be able to build birdhouses for the rest of his life without anything getting in the way; but the longer he lives, the greater the chances are that something will come along and interrupt his dream of building birdhouses. He could lose his home to foreclosure, he could have someone break in and steal all his birdhouse materials, he could have his workshop burn down, etc. But if he died tomorrow, or later this week, he could be practically guaranteed to have his dream of building birdhouses for the rest of his life come true!

You see, he didn’t specify that he wanted to do it for a long time; no, he simply said he wanted to do it for the rest of his life! So since the longer he lives, the more opportunities there are for something to come along and shatter that dream, I would think he’d want to die as soon as possible to ensure having it come true for him. And for that reason, he should clearly avoid Cheerios and start eating Frankenberry or Trix or something like that. That’s the ticket!
