Women’s UEFA U-19 Tournament

Yes, it’s the UEFA Women’s Tournament Final today! (Well, for the under 19-year-olds, anyway.) And you know what that means, right? You don’t? Well, neither do I, actually. But I’m pretty sure it means they’re not allowed to use their arms in the game.

That’s why it was so strange when the camera was showing one of the Norwegian girls warming up, and one of the announcers said: “You know she’s got some tricks up her sleeve!” Um, she’s not allowed to use anything in her sleeve; this is soccer. So maybe she’s got some tricks in her socks? Hidden in her shoes? Up her pants-leg? I don’t know. But the term “up her sleeve” just seemed to be a bit inappropriate under the circumstances.

I was confused at first, as this was listed as the UEFA Women’s Champion’s League Final, and it was being contested by countries rather than league teams. But at the final ceremony, they finally identified it correctly.

Anyway, if you were wondering, Germany dominated the game and won the title, beating Norway in the final 8-1. It looks like the German women’s team is going to be great (again)! Maybe they’ll be playing the USA for the next Olympic gold medal.
