Emerson Flaming Kangaroo Ad

Emerson, some faceless international corporation (I guess), is back with a vengeance with this new Kangaroo ad, as well as with a wolf ad (which I will discuss in its own piece). This commercial shows us how Emerson is forcing a bunch of poor kangaroos to go hopping through the desert of the Australian outback when it’s so hot out, they all start glowing and then burst into flames (!). Or, at least, that’s what it looks like is happening here. And since they start talking about connecting Internet stuff, all I can think is that Emerson must be giving the kangaroos the job of laying the Internet cable, and forcing them to do all the work for nothing. (And then chasing them into the desert to die so they can chisel them out of their pay and they can’t sue.) Anyway, that’s what this makes me think of, because this is really what it looks like is occurring in this scenario.

If they’re talking about setting up the almost unthinkably difficult task of permitting a continent-wide Internet access throughout all of the continent of Australia (by the way: when I was a little kid, Australia was not even considered a continent, even though it obviously is one! Or at least, that’s how they taught it back then. But at least Pluto was a planet, so I guess it all kind of evens out in the end, huh?), maybe this isn’t a bad concept, except that it does make it look like they’re intentionally stampeding kangaroos out to their deaths in the desert. But kangaroos are Australian, so, um, I guess it’s a good stereotype to use, or something (?). Or maybe they could say that they accomplished a job that’s as much bigger than most tasks as a can of Foster’s Lager is larger than a regular brand of beer’s can is. (Did you think it was called “Fosters Larger” when you were a kid, too?) Then they could have said: “Emerson: It’s Australian for Internet, mate!”

I cannot find this commercial online anywhere, sorry. I’ve hopped and hopped all over looking for it, but I couldn’t find it. But it’s all over cable news if you want to see it (and even if you don’t)!
