I don’t know exactly what it is about animal videos that we all seem to love so much, but we really do, don’t we? I guess it’s because they’re so cute and funny. And some of the ones we seem to love best are when animals appear to take on human attributes (like the talking dog videos, etc.). Maybe it’s due the fact that we’d like to be able to relate even more closely to our pets, or maybe it’s because it seems so silly to attribute human characteristics to our pets, and imagine them engaged in the banality of the daily grind (like us). The show Robot Chicken is wonderful in placing the fictional characters from amazing horror, science fiction and fantasy movies in these everyday situations, with the evil emperor from Star Wars ordering take-out lunch, the janitors who have to clean up all the characters who fall to their deaths from great heights, etc. And with the cuteness of our furry friends placed into this type of everyday human scenario, but leaving in the dog vs. cat cartoon stereotype intact, and applying it to our own conflicts, is just really fun. Geico had a dog in a car chasing a cat in a car in a high-speed chase scenario like out of the movie Bullitt, and it was one of their best, being as it was cute, fun, and a good example of demonstrating why you might need their insurance (all the reckless drivers out there, plus the new law making it legal for dogs and cats to drive in California)! And while this Subaru ad doesn’t really do much for the car they’re trying to sell, it’s cute enough to make most people enjoy watching it, at least until it runs hundreds of times and wears out its welcome.
Here’s the conniving cat confounding crying cuddly canine car commercial:
