The Hunger Games is the biggest movie of the year, and the critics seem to love it, too. And you know what that means, right? That means someone’s just got to try to cash in on this phenomenon! And what better way to try to do that than by making an ad that skewers the movie’s plot in a way that sells products for a company with “hunger”, or “hungry” in its name? Well, this has not been lost on me, so here is my idea for an ad for Hungry-Man frozen dinners that uses a joke scenario that’s a play on the plot of The Hunger Games:
In a dystopian near future (dinner time, tonight), hungry men getting off from work are offered a free Hungry-Man dinner, so long as they’re willing to fight for it (!), in the so-called “Hungry Games”. So they’re given Nerf weapons or paintball guns to fight with, and they all run through the woods after each other, shooting away at one another. And while they’re hunting each other, the announcer tells us why they’re all willing to fight so hard for such a delectable meal, detailing in scrumptious detail all the different options, along with their side dishes, such that they all sound delicious (and with inset pictures of what he’s describing). Then, with only two guys left, they shoot at one another and miss (or hit each other at exactly the same time), and they end up wrestling until they start biting each other, with thought balloons above each of their heads, showing which Hungry-Man dinner they’re imagining biting into. So the host/referee says they both get the free Hungry-Man dinners, and in fact, they’ll all get one just for being such entertaining contestants. And they all live happily ever after, so long as they’re allowed to eat Hungry-Man frozen dinners every night! The End.
