A number of years ago, there was this great ad for boating (encouraging people to buy a boat and go boating) where they showed someone in a car waving to people on the street and in other cars, and the people thought they were crazy and ignored them, and then we saw what it was like with boating, and everyone is friendly and waving to everyone. It was really quite clever. Of course, they didn't show how much money you'd be throwing away on your boat, but that's only a lie of omission, after all.
But how about an attack ad to make boating look bad, like for some fast car? We could see shots from movies like the one from Mutiny on the Bounty of the guy getting keel-hauled, the sequence from From Russia with Love of James Bond shooting the flame thrower into the gas-soaked water and burning everyone from the enemy boats alive, scenes from Jaws of the giant shark swimming into the boat to eat Quint, scenes from Titanic of the ship sinking and everyone panicking, etc. Then we could see some cool-looking guy driving something like a Dodge Challenger, and everyone on the street pointing and saying: "Cool!", etc. And then they could show us the price difference between owning a small boat and owning a car.
(Sorry, I can't seem to find that old boating ad on YouTube.)
