Emerson (some faceless corporation) has been running a commercial on TV for quite a
while now where they claim to have helped China use green energy solutions
rather than relying on coal, helping to solve their pollution problem. But
since this ad started running on television, all I have heard about this issue
is that China has been building coal-fired power plants at a record pace, and
China’s pollution problem, especially in some urban areas, has become almost at
plague levels. So, um, how did Emerson solve the problem again? Because the
only thing I’ve heard about Emerson solving anything for China’s clean energy
sector and reducing pollution is in the Emerson ad. There has been no good news
coming from China to my knowledge about how Emerson solved their pollution
problem. Could it be that Emerson is taking their slogan too seriously, and
believing their own hype, has simply “consider(ed) it solved” without actually
solving anything? That’s what it seems like from where I’m sitting. And I do ever
so much dislike false advertising claims.
So just a word of advice to advertisers: If you’re going to
make a claim, try to be sure first that news stories won’t come out to
invalidate your claim, because if that happens, no-one will trust your ad, or
the company it represents.
Here’s the spurious spot (Maybe they should stop running it
for now?):
