I watched Alfred Hitchcock’s Under Capricorn last night for the first time (on TCM, your source
for the best movies), and near the end there was a crane shot over the old
Australian town (which must have been a matte painting), and it looked like an
old colonial town in early America. (The movie takes place in 1831.) And
Australia was also colonized by the British, but it was a penal colony. So, um,
does Australia have an architectural style called “Penal Colonial”, like we
have a “Colonial” style in America? If they don’t, maybe they should.
