The “Gang of Six”

A bi-partisan group of senators has gotten together to try to hash out a solution to America’s growing debt crisis. The media has taken to calling them the “Gang of Six”. So, obviously the news media in this country never wants there to be any plan to control the skyrocketing national debt so that we’ll go bankrupt and fall into a depression that brings the destruction of our country. I mean, right? Otherwise they wouldn’t have named this group of (bi-partisan!) guys who are trying to help solve the problem after a group of treasonous criminals from China’s recent history, the “Gang of Four”. Or don’t they know history well enough to realize what that context would suggest? (I wouldn’t be surprised.) Perhaps they meant to name the senators after the band Gang of Four: either way, they are idiots, or worse. In their mad dash to indict anyone who might make any kind of budget cuts, and lament about everyone those cuts might impact, they are forgetting one irreversible and (dare I day it?) inconvenient truth: If the United States does not cut spending and reverse its debt trends (and yes, raise some taxes, but that won’t solve even half of the problem at this point. How about ending the quagmire wars, for one? Didn’t Obama promise to bring the troops home from Iraq in 2009? Hello! It’s 2011! Where’s the media on this?), the economy will collapse and there will be no more funds to help anyone with anything anymore, no matter how many heart-strings it tugs. Want to talk about denying seniors medical care? When there is no more money period, it will be a real problem! I’m sorry, but this is true and non-partisan. The news media needs to wake the fuck up and stop trying to play the whiny ratings card, and start to help pressure the right people to solve this problem; otherwise, they’re going to be eating cat food themselves pretty soon. And it will be their own fault. And we’ll all be able to blame them for it, too. (Sure, it’s the government’s fault, but with the right news media spotlight honestly put on the problem, even those lying douche-bags in government will have to help solve the problem. Until they do this, the news media is equally culpable. When are they going to stop being partisan and start doing their jobs? I mean, after the downgrade from S&P, and Geithner’s dismissal of it to the sound of crickets, what more proof do we need that the news media is committing malpractice? Please, serve your country before your ideology. I’m begging you!)
