There’s nothing sexier and more glamorous than peeing your pants! And while you and I know it’s true, some ignorant fools aren’t aware of this. That’s why they made this commercial showing these chic adult diapers on the elegant red carpet in glamorous Tinseltown! And with the question: “What are you wearing?”, we see our starlet here proudly proclaim to the world: “I’m wearing the new Depend Silhouette Undergarments!” (Actually, she doesn’t say that: the announcer guy does; but she really should be the one to say it!) This scenario probably plays out in real life all the time, but the superficial entertainment media covers it all up so as to avoid anything that doesn’t simply drip with glitz and glamour (but rather, drips with urine. Oh, sorry: I mean leak-proof Depends don’t drip with anything at all except for glitz and glamour! But seriously, in real life, the gossip-mongers would probably love to reveal who is wearing adult diapers to humiliate them, those rapscallions!).
Maybe this is another ad for Betty White to knock out of the park! I know that Depend is trying to make their product seem sexy and youthful and stuff, but Betty White’s commercials are the apogee of fun advertising these days, and it would be fall-down funny to many people, I’d bet, if they had a red carpet scenario where there are style reporters asking sexy stars what they’re wearing, and after some Valentinos and Vera Wangs, we get to Betty White, and she says she’s wearing Depends. I think it would be a very popular spot if they made it (or at least, a fun SNL skit: Have they done this already?). But if Betty White had another, younger and sexy star right behind her on the red carpet, like Lisa here, say (seriously): “Really? Me too!” about wearing Depends, then the spot would work on both levels, and help advertise the product successfully for different age groups.
But in all seriousness, this red carpet commercial for Depend is really a great, fun idea! And showing someone wearing them under a tight-fitting dress and being practically unnoticeable is very helpful for their brand, I think. It may not seem like a realistic scenario whatsoever as shown here, but it’s really clever; and for women who may need to wear Depends, it’s a demonstration that probably makes them feel they can use them discreetly and without worry of embarrassment, which is important, I’ll bet. Now they just have to figure out a way to make Depends less embarrassing to buy! (Maybe if they could get the actor from this ad to make the frisky cat meow sound effect at the store when women buy them?)
