Phillips’ Regular Talk

Phillips’ laxatives have a series of ads referring to themselves as “regular talk”, by which they mean talk about regularity, as in poop. This approach does not appear to be very popular with the viewing public. But this “regular” thing reminded me that there’s a silly 1960s European horror movie called The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism, and it has a character named “Count Regula” (he’s the villain). But if they changed his name to Count Regular, he could be the hero!

And so some bad guy is trying to torture some lady by feeding her constipating foods, and so she’s uncomfortable; but our hero gives her some Phillips’ Colon Health, or whatever product, and she becomes regular and comfortable; and so once again, the day is saved by Count Regular! (Or how about Captain Regular? He could be a superhero like Superman who flies around delivering Phillips’ laxatives to people “in distress” {code for constipation}. And so again the day is saved by Phillips’ laxatives!)

The slogan for Count Regular could be: “You can Count on being Regular with Phillips’ Colon Health: It brings your colon back to life!”

Here’s an example of the “regular talk” ads:

And here’s the movie with Christopher Lee as Count Regula:
