Auto Trader Internet Search Ad

Auto Trader has been using the same device for their ads for as long as I’ve seen them: We see someone doing a web search for the car they want, and we see lots and lots of cars, presumably driving of their own accord, zooming down what I can only guess is one of the series of tubes that the internet is supposed to be made out of (according to the late Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, who was repeatedly teased for saying so on The Daily Show in an object lesson in why old people should not publicly attempt to explain new technology, especially in front of cameras). And then as the person narrows down what they want, the number of cars gets smaller and smaller, with the wrong type being eliminated by disintegration sort of like in the carousel in Logan’s Run. (<Renew, renew!) But they’re all still barreling along at top speed as this process continues. And at the end of the search process, we’re left with one car, which skids and stops, and then we see the person looking into their computer screen. But shouldn’t the car come bursting out of the screen and run them over or do donuts on their face? At least then we’d see it’s a real car, and not just a picture of one online that could end up being a scam (as in maybe a picture of the car before it was wrecked or something).

Here’s an Auto Trader ad of this type (It’s not the newer one I’m looking for, but it’ll do to show you what they’re like.):
