A commercial for Carmax shows some woman in a red dress
chasing some starting line all down a beach and all the way into a used car
lot, at which point, after running for miles, she finally crosses the starting line. Well, most people I know
would already be dead tired by then, so they wouldn’t get anywhere after
crossing the starting line, if they even bothered to get there in the first
place. That’s just the state of fitness here in America these days, sadly.
So here’s what I’d recommend for this ad, to prevent people
like me from noticing this issue and getting distracted from the message of the
ad: Have her notice the starting line, and when she steps over it, she gets
transported to the used car lot, and then she appears there just past the
starting line, and greeted by the sales guy, surrounded by great cars.
Otherwise, most people might get the message that it’s just too much effort to
buy a used car, and that they would be totally worn out by the experience. (I
mean, it’s a fun ad, but it’s also a long run to that car lot. Are you in shape
enough to want to do it and then buy
a car?)
