Fabergé Brut Julius Caesar (Joke) Ad

We see Marcus Brutus getting dressed and ready at home, preparing to assassinate Julius Caesar. He puts on his toga, checks the sharpness of his dagger, and then he looks in the mirror, puts on some Brut After Shave, and heads out to the Senate with his co-conspirators. And then at the Senate, they kill Caesar, with the last blow dealt by Brutus himself, and all while we hear the Brut advertising jingle, but with slightly altered lyrics, like so:

(To the tune of the Brut ad song: “Today’s Your Brut Day”)

Et tu, Brute,
It’s your lucky Brut day, Brute!

Et tu, Brute,
It’s your Brut day!

Et tu, Brute,
It’s your lucky Brut day!

(At one point in the song, where they sing: “It’s your lucky Brut day,” we cut to a quick scene where we see Brutus having his fortunes read by an oracle, and all the signs are favorable for him, so Brutus turns to the camera, smiles, and gives a “thumbs up”.)

And after the assassination, a dying Julius Caesar staggers to Brutus, hands Brutus a bottle of Brut After Shave and says: “Et tu, Brute: It’s your Brut day!” And Brutus takes the bottle, and turns and smiles at the camera, holding up the bottle of Brut so the label shows.

Here’s the old Brut Joe Namath ad with the Brut Day song:

(HBO is showing a rerun of their Rome series, so I couldn’t help but think of this.)
