In this ad for Varilux, some brand of smooth-transition progressive lens glasses, we see a hidden kiosk appear in the middle of a restaurant seen only by the guy beckoned by Varilux, kind of like “Number 13”, by M.R. James, where black magic allows some warlock to create an otherwise nonexistent room in a hotel where he does yucky evil stuff.
And so, based upon this ad, I have to assume that evil character from the M.R. James story is the guy who invented Varilux lenses, and all so he can lure unsuspecting glasses-wearers into an alternate dimension with the promise of miracle lenses so he can steal their souls!
(But don’t worry, maybe it doesn’t happen to everyone who buys them.)
