I just saw Arsenic and
Old Lace recently, and it’s a zany movie with a guy who thinks he’s
Theodore Roosevelt. And that reminded me of the Bull Moose Party, and all the
silliness made me think of an ad for Moosehead, where there’s a “Bull Moose
Party” (with a big banner sign saying so), like a frat party from Animal House, and there’s a bunch of
guys dressed like TR, and some women dressed as Suffragettes, and then there’s
a pantomime moose dancing around. And then a bunch of guys runs into the party
holding a mounted moose head and screams: “We’ve got the moose head!” And then
everyone cheers and screams and dances. Then the slogan is: “Moosehead Beer:
Get the moose head!” (Or: “Moosehead Beer: Have a Bull Moose Party!”)
(Where I went to boarding school, we had some rivalry with
another regional boarding school, and there was some huge mounted stuffed moose
head that we’d steal back and forth from each other as a prank. So that last
part is in tribute to that tradition.)
