The Tweet (An Updating of “The Letter”)

In this new version of W. Somerset Maugham’s classic story The Letter, some woman kills some man in supposed self-defense, but there’s a tweet that proves she was involved in a love affair with the victim. And this version is much shorter, because everyone can see everyone else’s tweets, so her lie is easily proven, and she’s nabbed for murder. But, because it’s modern times, she only gets 5 years in prison, rather than death by hanging, and so she becomes a celebrity on her release from prison, and she opens a bar in Los Angeles called “The Gun Club”, where she makes lots of money signing autographs for autograph hounds and murder junkies. The End.

(Sorry: TCM is showing both movie versions of The Letter tonight, so I couldn’t resist updating the story to Twitter.)
