“To Catch a Thief” Hitchcock Sighting
As most movie fans know, Alfred Hitchcock liked to make cameo appearances in his movies. And in the one he made for To Catch a Thief, he makes an unknowing reference to a future movie of his that would have made a great ad for that film: The Birds. You see, in this scene, Cary Grant sits in the back of a bus, and he looks to his right at a woman and then at her carry-on item: a birdcage full of birds; and then he looks to his left and sees Alfred Hitchcock. Now wouldn’t that have made a fun ad for The Birds, at least as a promo clip for a channel like TCM’s showing of it?
