Okay, this might be a fairly arcane reference for a lot of people, but there was a US Senator named Jeremiah Denton who was a P.O.W. during the Vietnam War for years, and he distinguished himself by using his eyes to blink: “Torture” in Morse Code while being interviewed for a propaganda film for the North Vietnamese Army. And while watching former Defense Secretary Robert Gates being grilled on his book by obvious partisans in the news who are mad about some of what he wrote (while ignoring the much larger percentage of the book where he is clearly supportive of President Obama), he appeared to me to be blinking in an abnormally voluminous and erratic fashion, which made me wonder: “Hey, was he blinking: ‘Torture’ in Morse Code?” (If he was, it was likely as a joke for the military men and women still in the field.)
