We’ve got tons of popular cop-type shows where government agents bust bad guys in the civilian population (CSI, 24), or even in the military population (NCIS), but how about the more realistic story of the agents who help cover up crimes within the government for political reasons? That’s a story we see on the news far more often than anything like any of the actual shows we can choose to watch, so we’d relate to it much more! Plus, it might be fun to watch the good guys being forced to throw their highfalutin morals in the ashcan for a change, or else!
And so each episode would begin by showing us the crime, committed by political operatives within the government for partisan reasons, but rather than watching our heroes figure out who did the crime and bust them, they already know who did it, and they have to claim no crime was committed, even though they not only know a crime has been committed, but they know who did it and why, and we all know it too (but they would lose their job if they did their job, so they not only don’t do their job, but they actively cover up crimes instead of solve them).
