Glass Ceiling: The Video Game

There is a Reuters story today about gender inequality in the video game industry. Well, that’s a social issue that comes up again and again. So rather than making another shoot-‘em-up video game, why not design a game to help women in the workforce avoid pitfalls, shatter barriers, and get to the top in their career? The game could be called “Glass Ceiling”, and in it, female players would learn to negotiate the inequalities of the “old boy’s club” system in the workplace. Then, at the highest level, players could finally break through the glass ceiling and run the company.

There are lots of examples of women who run companies, countries, etc. So why not use some of these women’s stories to design the game play? Then it might actually be a really good and informative playing experience, where players learn what hardships and pitfalls they may encounter, and how to get around them and defeat them. And it would be an educational experience for all players, regardless of gender, because there would be lots of workplace situations and decisions, from the initial job interview all the way to getting promoted or getting fired.

I joke about a lot of stuff, but this really might be an interesting video game for players who wanted to know more about how the workplace works before actually getting there, so they can negotiate it more easily and efficiently.
